Setup, Compatibility & Care
Setup
- Choose Location: Select a flat, sturdy surface on both your door and door frame for installation. Ensure the retainer will not interfere with door closure or other components.
- Mark Pilot Holes: Hold the bracket and clip components in their intended positions. Mark the screw hole locations with a pencil.
- Drill Pilot Holes: Using an appropriate drill bit (smaller than your screws), carefully drill pilot holes at your marked spots.
- Secure Components: Attach the bracket to the door frame and the clip to the door using suitable screws (screws not included, typically). Ensure they are aligned so the clip engages smoothly with the bracket when the door is open.
- Test Functionality: Gently open and close the door, testing the retainer to ensure it holds securely and disengages easily when desired.
Compatibility
This retainer is designed for use with caravans, motorhomes, and boats. Its dimensions (60mm clip length, 70mm bracket width, 90mm overall depth) mean it's suitable for a wide range of doors, but always measure your specific door and frame to ensure a proper fit and clearance. It's universally compatible with most surfaces that can accommodate screw-in fixings.
Care
The W4 Extended Viva Door Retainer requires minimal care. Periodically:
- Clean: Wipe down the retainer with a damp cloth to remove dirt, dust, or saltwater residue. Avoid abrasive cleaners.
- Inspect: Check for any signs of wear, cracks, or loose screws. Tighten screws if necessary.
- Lubricate (Optional): If the clip becomes stiff, a small amount of silicone spray on the moving parts can help maintain smooth operation, though often not necessary. Proper care ensures longevity and consistent performance.
