Setup, Compatibility & Care
Initial Setup:
- Upon arrival, water the established plant thoroughly. Ensure the soil in the 4-litre pot is well-moistened.
- Plant into a suitable garden border or container as soon as possible. Choose a location that receives adequate sunlight.
- If planting in the ground, prepare the soil by digging a hole twice the width of the root ball and incorporating compost.
- If planting in a container, use a good quality, peat-free compost and ensure the pot has adequate drainage holes.
Compatibility:
This rose is compatible with most garden soils and compost mixes suitable for flowering plants. It grows well alongside other flowering shrubs and perennials in mixed borders or as a standalone feature in a container.
Ongoing Care:
- Watering: Water thoroughly after planting and during dry spells, especially in the first year and when grown in containers.
- Feeding: Feed during the growing season (spring and summer) with a balanced rose fertilizer or a general-purpose plant food to encourage healthy growth and repeat flowering.
- Pruning: Perform light pruning in winter (typically January or February). This involves removing any dead, damaged, or crossing branches and lightly shaping the plant to encourage strong flowering wood for the next season.
- Seasonal Appearance: Be aware that from October to December, the plant will naturally lose its leaves to prepare for winter. New growth will appear in spring.
