This Trend two-flute hinge jig cutter is designed for woodworkers needing precision for deep grooving, rebating, and morticing, especially in template-guided work where template thickness limits cutting depth. Its key benefit is the extra-long shank, allowing access to deeper cuts. A caveat to consider is the need for careful usage to prevent breakage, requiring shallower cuts per pass and more passes overall.

The extra-long shank allows the cutter to achieve deeper cuts than standard cutters, which is particularly useful for template work where the template thickness might restrict the cutting depth.
TCT stands for Tungsten Carbide Tipped. This means the cutting edges are tipped with a very hard material, providing increased durability, wear resistance, and allowing the cutter to stay sharp for longer periods.
It is ideal for deep grooving, rebating, and morticing, especially when performing template work. It's designed for precision joinery tasks.
To prevent breakage, take more passes than usual and only cut up to half the diameter of the cutter in one pass. Avoid aggressive plunging or side loading.
The shank diameter is 1/4 inch (6.35 mm).
C = 12 mm (cutting diameter), D = 19 mm (cutting length), OL = 66 mm (overall length).
While versatile, its design with an extra-long shank makes it particularly suited for specific deep-cutting tasks and template work. For general shallow routing, other specialized cutters might be more efficient.
Reduce the depth of cut per pass. Take more passes, ensuring each pass removes only a shallow amount of material (less than half the cutter diameter). Ensure the router speed is appropriate for the material and cut depth.
Check if the cutter is sharp. Dull cutters produce rough finishes. Ensure the router is set to an appropriate speed and that the feed rate is consistent. Verify the cutter is securely mounted and not wobbling.
Confirm the shank length is sufficient for the desired cut depth relative to your template setup. Ensure the router base or spindle moulder setup allows for the necessary plunge depth.
Setup: Ensure the cutter is securely fitted into your router or spindle moulder collet. Verify that the collet size matches the shank diameter (1/4 inch in this case) and tighten firmly.
Compatibility: This cutter is designed for use with standard routers and spindle moulders that accept a 1/4 inch shank. Always check your machine's specifications for compatibility.
Care: After use, clean the cutter to remove any wood dust or resin. Store it in its protective packaging or a dedicated router bit case to prevent damage. Avoid excessive force or side loading during operation. Regularly inspect the cutting edges for wear and sharpness.
