You'll typically need a screwdriver, possibly an Allen key (included), and a measuring tape.
These knobs are primarily designed for interior doors. While they can be used on some exterior doors, they may not offer the same level of weather resistance as purpose-built exterior hardware.
A mortice lock is a lock that is fitted into the door itself, rather than surface-mounted. This knob set is designed to work with a mortice lock.
The spindle size is the length of the metal rod that passes through the door and connects the knobs. Measure the thickness of your door to determine if the included spindle length is suitable. The provided spindle is designed to fit a range of door thicknesses.
The set is designed to replace both knobs. It's recommended to replace both for a consistent look and function.
Minor scratches can sometimes be buffed out with a specialized metal polish for bronze. Deep scratches may require refinishing.
Tighten the set screws on the knob spindle using the provided Allen key.
Check the alignment of the spindle with the mortice lock mechanism. Make sure the spindle is correctly inserted and long enough to engage the lock.
Avoid using abrasive cleaners. Regularly clean with a soft cloth and consider applying a protective wax or sealant designed for bronze finishes.
Ensure compatibility with your existing door hardware. The set is designed for standard mortice locks. Installation typically involves removing the old knobs and spindle, inserting the new spindle, and securing the new knobs.
Clean the knobs regularly with a soft, damp cloth. Avoid abrasive cleaners or harsh chemicals that could damage the finish.
