The Zefal Cotton Rim Tape - 17mm is designed for cyclists who prioritize durability and heat resistance, making it an ideal choice for riders utilizing rim brakes. This high-performance, self-adhesive tape provides a robust barrier between your inner tube and the spoke holes, preventing punctures and ensuring a smooth ride. While it offers superior protection against extreme temperatures, users should note that as a woven cotton product, it requires careful alignment during installation to ensure full coverage of the rim bed.

This tape is designed for clincher setups with inner tubes and is not recommended for tubeless conversions.
A standard roll is typically sufficient to cover two wheels, depending on the rim diameter.
It is best to cut the tape cleanly at the valve hole rather than overlapping, which can create a bump and cause seating issues.
While the adhesive may remain sticky, it is highly recommended to replace the tape if it has been removed to ensure the structural protection remains intact.
Cotton offers superior heat resistance and durability in high-friction environments compared to many standard plastic tapes.
Ensure the rim bed was thoroughly cleaned with isopropyl alcohol before application to remove oils or grease.
Verify that your rim internal width is compatible with the 17mm tape; if the rim is wider, consider using a wider tape variant like the Zefal 22mm.
To install, ensure your rim bed is clean, dry, and free of any debris or old adhesive residue. Start at the opposite side of the valve hole, slowly peel the backing, and press the tape firmly into the center of the rim channel, ensuring it is centered. Work your way around the wheel, finishing at the valve hole. Once applied, use a blunt tool to press the tape firmly into the rim bed to activate the adhesive. If the tape becomes frayed over time due to frequent tire changes, it should be replaced to maintain optimal protection. Keep the wheels dry; if the bike is ridden in heavy rain, allow the wheels to air dry completely to protect the cotton fibers.
