The Tropica Hemianthus micranthemoides is an ideal choice for aquascapers and hobbyists looking to add lush, light green texture to their midground or foreground planting schemes. This delicate, North American plant offers a trailing growth habit that mimics miniature Egeria, providing a refined aesthetic for both aquariums and terrariums. While it is prized for its ability to form dense, compact clusters, prospective growers should note that it requires strong lighting to achieve its signature graceful, trailing appearance and optimal health.

Yes, it creates an attractive, cushion-like carpet in high-humidity terrariums provided the soil remains moist.
Rinse the agar away, then gently pull the mass apart into smaller clusters using your fingers or tweezers.
It is best suited for the midground, but can also serve as a foreground plant if kept trimmed and well-lit.
Increase lighting intensity or duration, as this plant requires strong light to maintain a compact, bushy form.
Check nutrient levels in the water column and ensure consistent CO2 supplementation, as rapid growth often requires high nutrient availability.
This is often due to light shading; ensure regular thinning and trimming to allow light to penetrate the lower portions of the stems.
To prepare the plant, gently remove the agar gel from the root system by rinsing it under lukewarm water. Use fine-tipped tweezers to plant individual portions deep into the substrate, allowing for expansion as the roots establish. For care, ensure a lighting schedule of 8-10 hours daily. Regular trimming is necessary to prevent the plant from becoming too woody or overshadowing lower foliage. Because it is a fast grower, monitoring nutrient levels is essential to prevent deficiencies. It is fully compatible with standard tropical aquarium parameters and works harmoniously with most non-destructive freshwater fish and shrimp species.
