Setup, Compatibility & Care
To ensure the best results and longevity for your projects, follow these guidelines:
Setup
Before starting any project, ensure you have a clean, stable workspace and all necessary safety equipment, including safety glasses, gloves, and hearing protection if using power tools. Plan your cuts and assembly steps beforehand.
Compatibility
This timber is compatible with a wide range of common woodworking tools and materials:
- Cutting Tools: Hand saws, miter saws, circular saws.
- Joining: Wood screws, nails, wood glue, dowels.
- Finishing: Sandpaper (120-220 grit), wood filler, primer, paint, wood stain, varnish, polyurethane.
- Other Tools: Drill/driver, tape measure, pencil, clamps, level, square.
Care
Proper care and storage will prevent warping, twisting, and decay:
- Storage: Store any unused timber in a dry, flat location away from direct sunlight, extreme temperature changes, and high humidity. Stacking timber flat and elevated from the ground helps maintain its straightness.
- Cleaning: For finished pieces, clean with a damp cloth and mild soap. Avoid harsh chemicals.
- Longevity: For projects intended for humid environments or outdoor use, apply a waterproof sealant, exterior paint, or marine-grade varnish to all surfaces, including end grain, to protect against moisture and UV damage.
