Setup, Compatibility & Care
Setup: Ensure the drill bit is securely held in your drill's chuck. For bits with reduced shanks (25/64" and above), confirm your drill chuck can accommodate a 3/8" shank. Select an appropriate speed and feed rate for the material being drilled; harder materials generally require slower speeds and consistent pressure.
Compatibility: These drill bits are compatible with standard drill chucks. The 3/8" reduced shank on larger sizes is specifically designed to fit within 3/8" chucks, which are common on many portable drills. Always ensure your drill has sufficient power for the size of the bit and the material being cut.
Care: To maintain performance and extend the life of your drill bits:
- Lubrication: Use appropriate cutting fluid or lubricant when drilling into hard metals like stainless steel or titanium to reduce heat and improve chip clearance.
- Cooling: Avoid overheating the bit. Allow the bit to cool periodically, especially during prolonged drilling sessions.
- Cleaning: After use, clean the bits to remove metal chips and residue. A wire brush can be useful for removing stubborn debris.
- Storage: Store the bits in their original case or a dedicated bit organizer to prevent damage and keep them organized.
