The ERA 183 & 193 Auto Deadlocking Nightlatch in Gold (L11087) is designed for homeowners seeking enhanced security for their front doors. Its primary benefit is the automatic deadlocking mechanism that prevents forced entry via credit card, offering peace of mind. A potential consideration is the need to ensure the correct backset (40mm or 60mm) is chosen for your door. This nightlatch offers robust security features, including an ergonomic internal locking handle and a snib function for holding the bolt retracted when needed.

The backset is the distance from the edge of the door to the center of the keyhole or lock cylinder. You must choose the backset that matches your door's existing preparation for the lock to fit correctly.
This model is specifically designed for solid and glass-panelled wooden doors. It may not be suitable for metal doors without modification.
The ERA 183 & 193 Auto Deadlocking Nightlatch includes three keys and all necessary fixings for installation.
Auto deadlocking means the main lock bolt automatically locks into the strike plate when the door is closed, making it resistant to being forced open with tools like a credit card.
The internal handle can be deadlocked from the inside using the key. This lock is not designed for external key operation of the internal handle.
To maintain the polished brass finish, clean it gently with a soft, damp cloth. Avoid abrasive cleaners to prevent damage to the surface.
Check for any obstructions or misalignment in the door frame or strike plate. Ensure the backset measurement was correct for your door.
Ensure no debris is inside the keyhole. Lubricate the lock mechanism with a graphite-based lubricant (do not use oil-based lubricants). Check for any damage to the key or the lock cylinder.
Verify that the key is fully inserted and turned correctly for deadlocking. Check for any internal mechanism obstruction.
Ensure the snib is fully engaged and that there are no obstructions preventing the bolt from staying in the withdrawn position. This feature typically only works when the bolt is manually held in the withdrawn position.
