Setup, Compatibility & Care
Compatibility: Before installation, verify that your vehicle is listed within the compatible models: VW T25 Transporter, Camper, or Van (1.6D, 1.6TD, 1.7D from 1983-1991), VW Golf MK2 (1.6D, 1.6TD from 1984-1991), VW Golf MK3 (1.9D, 1.9TD, 1.9TDI from 1991-1998), VW Caddy Pickup (1.6D from 1983-1991), and VW Golf MK1 (1.5D, 1.6D from 1978-1983). Also check for Audi, Rover, Seat, and Volvo models that share these specific engine types and filter housing.
Setup (Oil Change Procedure):
- Ensure the engine is cool to prevent burns.
- Safely lift and support the vehicle.
- Locate the oil drain plug and oil filter.
- Place a suitable drain pan beneath the oil filter.
- Using an oil filter wrench, carefully unscrew the old filter. Be prepared for residual oil to spill.
- Clean the filter mounting surface on the engine.
- Lightly lubricate the rubber gasket on the new HENGST H17W05 filter with clean engine oil.
- Screw the new filter on by hand until the gasket makes contact, then tighten an additional 3/4 to 1 full turn (or according to specific vehicle manual instructions).
- Replace the drain plug and fill the engine with the correct type and amount of new oil.
- Start the engine and check for leaks around the filter and drain plug. Let the engine run for a few minutes, then shut it off and re-check the oil level.
Care: This is a disposable maintenance item. Replace it at recommended intervals as per your vehicle's service manual, typically every oil change or as specified by the manufacturer (e.g., every 10,000 km or annually). No specific cleaning is required; it is replaced when it becomes clogged.
