Product Information
Full details
Arbutus unedo offers a unique display of flowers and fruits simultaneously, making it a very special and attractive addition to any garden. The pendulous clusters of urn-shaped white flowers appear in late autumn, and the bright red fruits take 12 months to ripen, appearing on the tree together. This evergreen plant also features an attractive, shredding rich terracotta brown bark that is highly ornamental, and deep-green leaves adorn the branches all-year round. The Strawberry Tree is versatile, as it can be grown as a tree or a bush, making it suitable for various garden and patio settings. It is fully hardy and wind-resistant, ideal for exposed coastal settings as well as urban areas. The tree tolerates most soil types, including acid and alkaline, but performs best in fertile, well-drained soils. The Strawberry tree has a spreading form, reaching 6m in height and 5m in spread over 20 years. With its numerous features providing all-year-round interest and colour, Arbutus unedo is an excellent choice for your garden. Consider planting several in a row to enhance a plain wall or as a focal point near a sheltered garden water feature. Planting two on either side of an entrance gate creates a striking visual impact. This popular tree holds an RHS Award of Garden Merit.
