Shaving Brush - Taylor of Old Bond Street

The break-in period typically lasts for 5-10 shaves. During this time, some shedding may occur, and the bristles will gradually soften and splay out to create a more effective lathering surface.

A quick rinse after every use is essential. A more thorough cleaning with mild soap or a brush cleaner is recommended every 1-2 months, depending on usage frequency.

While primarily designed for soaps and creams, the brush can be used with shaving oils, though lather generation will be different. Ensure thorough rinsing afterward.

Pure badger hair is typically sourced from the badger's underbelly and is coarser than silvertip badger hair. It offers good water retention and lathering ability but may require a longer break-in period for softness.

Always store the brush bristles-up or bristles-down (if using a stand) in a dry, well-ventilated area. Avoid storing it in a closed cabinet or container while damp to prevent mildew.

While the brush itself is gentle, the lather it creates plays a key role. Using a mild shaving cream or soap with the brush will help ensure suitability for sensitive skin.

Some initial shedding is normal as loose hairs are dislodged during the break-in period. If shedding persists excessively after several uses, ensure you are not applying too much pressure and that the brush is drying properly.

Ensure you are using enough soap or cream and have adequately loaded the brush. Try pre-wetting the brush with warm water and shaking out excess moisture before loading. Experiment with different amounts of water.

This is common during the break-in period for pure badger brushes. Continue using the brush regularly, and the bristles will soften. You can also try soaking the brush for a few minutes in warm water before shaving.
