Full details
The Karakal First Touch Sliotar is an essential training tool for young hurlers and beginners looking to refine their skills in a safe, controlled environment. Its primary benefit is a specialized soft-touch leather construction that minimizes the sting on impact, making it ideal for developing confidence during practice; however, it is strictly designed for developmental training and is not suitable for competitive adult matches due to its lighter weight and specific softness rating.

FAQs
Is this ball suitable for senior hurling matches?
No, the Karakal First Touch Sliotar is designed specifically for developmental and Go Games play and does not meet the specifications for senior competitive matches.
Can I use this on a hard concrete surface?
While it can withstand casual use on concrete, constant impact with hard surfaces will accelerate the wear of the leather cover.
What age group is this intended for?
This sliotar is ideal for children participating in Go Games, typically ranging from ages 7 to 12.
Is the ball machine washable?
No, never submerge the sliotar in water or place it in a washing machine as this will damage the leather and internal structure.
Does the yellow color fade over time?
Like all leather sports balls, the color may dull slightly with extensive outdoor use, but the high-visibility yellow is designed to remain distinct for the life of the product.
Troubleshooting
Sliotar becoming waterlogged
Allow the ball to air dry naturally in a well-ventilated room; do not place on radiators or in direct heat as this may crack the leather.
Surface scuffing
Minor scuffs are normal with leather; wipe with a slightly damp cloth and allow to air dry to maintain the grip surface.
Pros and Cons
Pros
- Reduces hand and finger sting for young players
- Encourages proper technique and confidence
- Highly durable for frequent practice use
- Excellent visibility for outdoor training
Cons
- Not intended for official competitive matches
- Softer composition affects distance compared to match-grade balls
- Limited to beginner and intermediate development
Setup, Compatibility & Care
The sliotar requires no special setup and is ready for use immediately out of the packaging. It is compatible with all youth-sized hurleys and standard wooden or composite sticks. To maximize the longevity of the leather finish:
- Wipe clean with a soft, dry cloth after training sessions.
- Avoid using in heavy rain or on muddy surfaces, as leather can absorb moisture and become heavy.
- Store in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight when not in use.
- Avoid leaving the ball in contact with abrasive concrete surfaces for prolonged periods to maintain the leather stitching integrity.
