FAQs

What AMD processor sockets does the Alpine 23 support?

The ARCTIC Alpine 23 is designed to support AMD Socket AM4 and AMD Socket AM5.

How quiet is the Alpine 23?

It has a rated noise level of 0.3 sone, which is very quiet for a CPU cooler, especially at lower fan speeds.

Can I use this cooler for overclocking?

The Alpine 23 is best suited for stock or mild overclocking. For aggressive or extensive overclocking, a higher-performance cooler may be necessary.

What is the height of the Alpine 23?

The cooler has a height of 65 mm, making it a low-profile option suitable for compact PC builds.

Does it come with thermal paste pre-applied?

The ARCTIC Alpine 23 typically comes with thermal paste pre-applied to the base for convenience. However, it is always recommended to check the product packaging or manual for confirmation.

What is the warranty period for this cooler?

> Info needed: Warranty period information not provided in product data.

What is the fan bearing type and its benefits?

It uses a Fluid Dynamic Bearing (FDB), which is known for its longevity and quiet operation compared to standard sleeve or ball bearings.

Troubleshooting

CPU temperature is too high.

Ensure the cooler is correctly mounted with even pressure. Re-apply thermal paste if necessary. Check that the fan is spinning and connected to the CPU_FAN header. Ensure no obstructions are blocking airflow around the cooler.

Fan is making unusual noise.

Check if any cables are interfering with the fan blades. If noise persists, the fan bearing might be compromised. Contact ARCTIC support for a potential replacement.

Cooler does not fit in the case.

Verify the case's CPU cooler height clearance. The Alpine 23 has a height of 65 mm. Ensure no other components are obstructing the cooler's installation.

System does not boot after installation.

Double-check that the fan is properly connected to the CPU_FAN header and that the cooler is securely mounted without putting excessive stress on the motherboard.

Pros and Cons

Pros

  • Excellent for small form factor builds due to its low profile.
  • Quiet operation thanks to the FDB fan and low sone rating.
  • Easy installation process for supported AMD sockets.
  • Good value for money for basic cooling needs.
  • PWM fan control allows for flexible performance and noise management.

Cons

  • May not be sufficient for high-end CPUs or aggressive overclocking.
  • Aluminum heatsink is less performant than copper alternatives for extreme heat loads.
  • Limited to AMD AM4 and AM5 sockets.
  • Fan diameter is smaller than some alternatives, potentially affecting airflow in larger cases.

Setup, Compatibility & Care

Compatibility:

  • Supported CPU Sockets: AMD Socket AM4, AMD Socket AM5.
  • Form Factor: Low-profile design suitable for small form factor (SFF) cases.

Setup Instructions:

  1. Ensure your motherboard is compatible with AMD Socket AM4 or AM5.
  2. Clean the CPU surface and the base of the cooler thoroughly.
  3. Apply a small amount of thermal paste (pre-applied or use a compatible paste) to the center of the CPU.
  4. Align the cooler's mounting mechanism with the motherboard's CPU socket retention clips or mounting holes.
  5. Secure the cooler firmly according to the provided instructions (often involving clip-on mechanisms or screw-downs).
  6. Connect the fan's 4-pin PWM connector to the CPU_FAN header on the motherboard.

Care Instructions:

  • Cleaning: Dust buildup can reduce cooling efficiency. Periodically (every 3-6 months, depending on environment) clean the heatsink fins and fan blades using compressed air or a soft brush. Ensure the system is powered off and unplugged before cleaning.
  • Fan Maintenance: The Fluid Dynamic Bearing is sealed and generally maintenance-free. Avoid disassembling the fan unless absolutely necessary and instructed by ARCTIC support.
