Create secure boundaries with lightweight wire stock fencing designed for versatility and durabili...Create secure boundaries with lightweight wire stock fencing designed for versatility and durability, perfect for dog proofing, garden edges or livestock enclosures. Made from mild steel and hot dipped for longevity, you'll find installation easy with spring kinks between each vertical wire and a simple staple-to-post method. This fence suits field boundaries, horse paddocks and sheep enclosures, blending seamlessly with hedges for a neat finish. Fences come in three heights: 60cm, 80cm and 120cm. ’15’ is the width between the vertical wires – all our stock fences have a 15cm gap between the vertical wires. First put in your fence posts. Space 1.8m to 2m apart – for a garden you can use 50mm dia. round posts or 75mm dia. round posts. The 75m dia. posts are much stronger and will last a lot longer and we recommend you place one at the start and end of your fence and one every 5 posts in between to act as strainers. The fences come in rolls and you roll-out the fence as you fix it to the post using ‘U’ shaped fencing staples – don’t un-roll the whole fence! Work from post to post, making sure the bottom wire is touching the ground at all times. You can pull the fence tight by hand or with a tension bar but make sure you don’t over-tension – if the spring kinks are stretched out it is too tight – wire expands and contracts with heat so you must allow the spring kinks to do their job – otherwise the fence will sag. We also stock a wide range of fencing staples, line wire and high tensile barbed wire, as well a full range of fence posts. Create secure boundaries with ease using lightweight wire fencing designed for small livestock and pets, offering reliable protection for gardens and fields. Made from mild steel, this fence has 15cm gaps between vertical wires for flexibility and strength. Hot-dipped galvanisation and compliance with BS EN 10244-2 Class A standards mean you'll get long-lasting durability whether it's for dog-proofing, cattle enclosures or supporting a growing hedge.
This lightweight wire stock fencing is ideal for creating secure boundaries for various needs, including dog proofing, garden edges, and small livestock enclosures. Its hot-dipped mild steel construction ensures durability and longevity, offering a cost-effective and reliable fencing solution. While easy to install, proper tensioning is crucial to maintain its effectiveness over time, as over-tightening can compromise the spring kinks.

FAQs
What is the purpose of the spring kinks in the wire?
The spring kinks are designed to allow the wire to expand and contract naturally with changes in temperature. They also provide flexibility, making installation easier and absorbing some impact.
What type of posts are recommended?
For garden use, 50mm diameter round posts can suffice. For more robust applications like livestock enclosures or longer runs, 75mm diameter round posts are recommended for greater strength and longevity. Strainer posts at intervals are essential.
Can this fence be used for horses?
While suitable for general livestock, for horses, it's advisable to use this fencing in conjunction with other deterrents or as a boundary marker, as horses can be more prone to leaning on or damaging standard wire fences. Consider adding electric tape or wire for better containment.
How long will the hot-dipped galvanisation last?
The hot-dipped galvanisation, especially when compliant with BS EN 10244-2 Class A standards, provides excellent corrosion resistance and is designed for long-term outdoor use, typically lasting many years depending on environmental conditions.
What is the '15' in the product name 'Stock Fence - 80cm Tall - 50M' referring to?
The '15' refers to the 15cm gap between each vertical wire. All stock fences from this range feature this consistent spacing.
Do I need any special tools for installation?
You will need a hammer or staple gun to fix the 'U' shaped fencing staples to the posts. A tension bar can be helpful for pulling the wire taut, but it's not strictly essential for lighter applications.
Troubleshooting
Fence is sagging significantly.
The fence may be over-tensioned, causing the spring kinks to stretch. Loosen the tension slightly to allow the kinks to regain their shape. Ensure strainer posts are adequately supported.
Fencing staples are not holding securely.
Ensure you are using appropriate 'U' shaped fencing staples and that they are driven firmly into the posts. Check post condition for rot or weakness.
Rust spots appearing on the wire.
While hot-dipped galvanisation provides excellent protection, minor rust spots can sometimes occur. These are usually superficial and do not compromise the fence's structural integrity. Ensure the galvanisation is intact; if large areas are peeling, contact the supplier.
Difficulty unrolling the fence smoothly.
Ensure the roll is stable and not catching. Try rotating the roll slightly or repositioning the starting post. Do not unroll the entire length at once; work section by section.
Pros and Cons
Pros
Durable and long-lasting due to hot-dipped galvanisation.
Versatile for various applications from pet containment to agricultural use.
Simple and straightforward installation process.
Flexible design with spring kinks allows for natural expansion and contraction.
Available in multiple heights to suit different containment requirements.
Cons
Requires careful tensioning to avoid stretching spring kinks.
May not be suitable for very large or aggressive livestock without additional reinforcement.
Posts are sold separately and need to be acquired.
Requires specific fencing staples for secure attachment.
Setup, Compatibility & Care
Setup:
Install Posts: Begin by installing sturdy fence posts, spaced approximately 1.8m to 2m apart. Use thicker posts (e.g., 75mm diameter) at the start, end, and every 5 posts as strainers for added support.
Roll Out & Fix: Unroll the fencing gradually, attaching it to the posts as you go using 'U' shaped fencing staples. Ensure the bottom wire remains in contact with the ground.
Tensioning: Gently pull the fence taut by hand or with a tension bar. Crucially, do not over-tension. The spring kinks should remain visible and not stretched out. Allow for natural expansion and contraction due to temperature changes.
Compatibility:
Compatible with standard fencing posts (50mm or 75mm diameter recommended).
Works well with 'U' shaped fencing staples for attachment.
Can be used in conjunction with line wire or high-tensile barbed wire for enhanced security (sold separately).
Care:
The hot-dipped galvanisation provides excellent corrosion resistance. No special treatments are typically required.
Periodically inspect the fence line for any damage or loose staples, especially after severe weather.
Keep the area around the fence base clear of excessive vegetation that could impede inspection or potentially damage the lower wires.
