FAQs
Is the OLPRO Defford suitable for winter camping?
While it features a strong geodesic frame and 5000mm waterproofing, it is designed primarily as a 3-season backpacking tent. It may lack the insulation required for extreme sub-zero temperatures.
Can I fit two people and two backpacks inside?
It is a 2-berth tent, so it fits two people snugly. You may need to store large backpacks in the external vestibule areas if space becomes limited.
How do I clean the REPRO fabric?
Use only cold water and a soft cloth to spot clean. Do not use chemical cleaners as these can damage the water-resistant coating.
Are replacement poles available?
Yes, replacement alloy poles can be sourced through OLPRO support if a section is damaged.
Is the groundsheet heavy-duty?
Yes, it is a fully sewn-in, durable groundsheet designed to withstand standard terrain conditions.
What is the weight of the tent?
The Defford is designed to be lightweight, making it ideal for backpacking. Please refer to the specific product weight on the packaging as it includes the tent, poles, and pegs.
Troubleshooting
Tent feels unstable in wind
Ensure all alloy poles are fully seated in the eyelets and verify that every guy line is tensioned correctly.
Condensation on inner walls
Ensure all ventilation points are fully open to allow airflow and keep the inner sleeping area clear of the outer flysheet where possible.
Difficulty inserting poles
Check that the tent is laid flat and that the pole sleeves are not twisted before attempting to thread the poles through.
Pros and Cons
Pros
- High wind stability due to the geodesic frame
- Excellent waterproofing with a 5000mm rating
- Sustainable construction using recycled REPRO fabric
- Compact and lightweight for easy backpacking transport
- Included alloy poles and pegs offer high strength-to-weight ratio
Cons
- Geodesic setup is more complex than simple tunnel tents
- Two-berth capacity is tight for two people with large gear
- Requires proper ventilation management to avoid condensation
- Groundsheet is non-removable, which can make cleaning harder
Setup, Compatibility & Care
Setup Process
- Layout the tent and identify the alloy poles.
- Feed the poles through the sleeves following the geodesic intersection points.
- Secure the ends of the poles into the corresponding eyelets.
- Peg out the corners and tension the guy lines to ensure the structure is taut.
Care Instructions
- Always allow the tent to air dry completely before storage to prevent mold or mildew on the REPRO fabric.
- Store the alloy poles carefully to avoid bending or snapping at the connectors.
- Avoid using detergents; clean with fresh water and a soft sponge.
- Ensure the tent is stored in a cool, dry environment away from direct sunlight when not in use.
