Product Information

Full details

The Shires Greedy Feeder Colour-Twist Net is designed for horse owners looking to manage their animal's forage consumption and extend meal times to support better digestive health and reduce stable boredom. By utilizing a specialized 2.5cm mesh design, this net requires the horse to work for their food, which significantly minimizes hay waste compared to traditional feeding methods; however, users should be aware that the mesh size may have a slight variance of +/- 0.5cm and that total capacity depends on the type and density of forage used.

FAQs

What is the exact mesh size?

The mesh size is 2.5cm (1 inch), though please note that a variance of +/- 0.5cm may occur.

Can this net hold 6kg of hay?

Yes, it has a capacity of approximately 6kg (13lb), though this can vary based on how tightly the hay is compressed.

Is this safe for shod horses?

It is generally recommended to hang the net at a height where the horse's hooves cannot come into contact with it to ensure safety.

How long is the net?

The net is 40 inches (102cm) long.

Does it come in different colors?

Yes, it is available in blue, pink, red, and green to help you identify different feeds or horses.

Troubleshooting

Horse is frustrated by the slow flow

Ensure the hay is not packed too tightly inside the net, as a slightly looser fill can make it easier for the horse to extract forage.

Net shows signs of fraying

Check if the net is hung against an abrasive surface; move the net to a clear space to prevent unnecessary friction.

Pros and Cons

Pros

Significantly slows down rapid eaters to support digestion
Reduces expensive hay wastage on the stable floor
Provides psychological enrichment by extending stable activity
Available in multiple color options (Blue, Pink, Red, Green)

Cons

Mesh size may vary by up to 0.5cm due to manufacturing
Requires more effort for the horse, which may frustrate impatient feeders initially
Total capacity is approximate and depends on forage density

Setup, Compatibility & Care

To set up the net, ensure it is securely tied using a quick-release knot to ensure horse safety. When filling the net, ensure the hay is packed evenly to allow for consistent flow through the mesh. Maintenance is straightforward; periodically inspect the net for any signs of wear or fraying, particularly if the horse tends to chew on the mesh. To clean, soak the net in water to remove dust and debris, then hang it up to air dry completely before the next use. If storing for long periods, keep the net in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight to preserve the integrity of the material.
