Product Information

Full details

The Okuma Custom Black CB-80 is a high-performance reel engineered specifically for serious carp anglers and those requiring big pit distance casting capabilities. It offers exceptional durability and smooth, precise operation through its advanced internal gearing, making it ideal for targeting trophy-sized fish in challenging environments; however, its larger size and robust construction may feel slightly heavy for those accustomed to lighter, finesse-style spinning gear.

FAQs

Does the CB-80 come with an extra spool?

Yes, the Okuma Custom Black CB-80 includes an extra spool, allowing you to carry different line types or diameters for varying conditions.

Can I use this for saltwater fishing?

While the reel is built with durable, corrosion-resistant materials, it is primarily designed for freshwater carp applications; always rinse thoroughly if used in saltwater.

What is the benefit of the worm shaft transmission?

The worm shaft system provides a slower, more precise oscillation, which lays the line evenly across the spool, reducing friction and improving casting distance.

How often should I lubricate the reel?

Occasional maintenance is recommended once per season, or more frequently if the reel is used in sandy or extremely wet environments.

Is the handle foldable?

The CB-80 features a durable aluminum regular handle designed for maximum strength; it is not a folding handle model.

Troubleshooting

Increased line twist during retrieve

Inspect the line roller for debris or buildup and ensure it rotates freely; clean with a soft brush and light lubricant if necessary.

Handle feeling 'sticky' or stiff

Ensure the handle is fully tightened and check for grit or debris around the handle base; avoid over-tightening the drag during storage.

Line tangling during the cast

Check that the line is not overfilled on the spool; the line should ideally sit 2-3mm below the spool lip for best casting performance.

Pros and Cons

Pros

Excellent line management for long-distance casting
Durable construction with corrosion-resistant components
Extra spool included for quick line-type swaps
Smooth retrieve feel under pressure
Robust internal protection via Hydro block

Cons

Substantial physical weight may cause fatigue during long sessions
Large footprint is not suited for smaller rods
Lack of a high-speed gear ratio for rapid retrieval

Setup, Compatibility & Care

For optimal results, pair the CB-80 with a 12-foot or 13-foot carp rod featuring a large butt guide to take full advantage of the spool's oscillation. When spooling, ensure you maintain consistent tension to allow the worm shaft system to perform at its peak.

To care for your reel, rinse the exterior with a damp cloth after saltwater or dusty sessions. While the Hydro block protects internal gears, avoid submerging the reel entirely. Periodically check that the handle screw is tight and ensure the line roller is free of debris to maintain the integrity of the Even Flow system.
