The HPE Smart Array P408i-p SR Gen10 Controller is an enterprise-level controller designed to maximize performance and storage capacity. It supports 12 Gb/s SAS and PCIe 3.0, offering enterprise-class storage performance, reliability, security, and efficiency. This controller features eight internal SAS lanes for connecting SAS or SATA drives and supports Mixed Mode operations, allowing RAID and HBA modes simultaneously. It also provides data-at-rest encryption for any connected drive. With 2 GB Flash-Backed Write Cache (FBWC), it enhances performance for write-intensive applications like databases and reduces latency. HPE Smart Path optimizes I/O paths between the controller and SSDs for repeated reads from numerous SSDs. HPE Smart Array SR SmartCache (optional license) can accelerate data access in HDD environments by caching hot data onto SSDs. For built-in reliability and security, the controller offers HPE Smart Array SR Secure Encryption (optional license) to protect data-at-rest, aiding compliance with regulations like HIPAA and Sarbanes-Oxley. The FIPS 140-2 implementation is under testing with expected validation. HPE SmartSSD Wear Gauge alerts users to potential drive issues before failure, and the 2 GB FBWC improves data reliability for long-term retention. For improved efficiency and management, Mixed Mode offers flexibility by allowing RAID and HBA operations concurrently without needing an additional controller. The UEFI storage configuration tool simplifies RAID volume creation and supports scripting via iLO through a RESTful interface. HPE Smart Storage Administrator (SSA) provides an intuitive interface for setting up, configuring, and managing drives, creating RAID volumes, and deploying Smart Array solutions.
