FAQs

Are these pants waterproof?

They are water-repellent, meaning they shed light rain and moisture, but they are not fully waterproof and will saturate in heavy or sustained rain.

Can I use these for winter hiking?

They are best suited for three-season use. For winter conditions, you may need to wear a thermal base layer underneath for adequate insulation.

How do I determine my size?

Consult the Salomon size guide, paying close attention to your waist measurement, as the integrated belt provides flexibility in the fit.

Are these suitable for climbing?

Yes, the athletic cut and durable fabric make them appropriate for bouldering and rock climbing, provided you are mindful of abrasive surfaces.

How should I clean the pants?

Machine wash in cool water with a gentle detergent and avoid fabric softeners. Tumble dry on a low setting.

Troubleshooting

Belt mechanism feels loose

Ensure the webbing is properly threaded through the buckle teeth and pull the strap firmly to engage the locking mechanism.

Water-repellent finish not working

The DWR coating may have worn off; machine wash to remove dirt and tumble dry on low heat to reactivate, or apply a fresh DWR spray.

Pros and Cons

Pros

Water-repellent material protects against elements
Integrated belt provides excellent adjustability
Lightweight construction prevents fatigue on long treks
Versatile black aesthetic transitions well from trails to casual settings

Cons

Not suitable for extreme alpine weather or heavy downpours
Material is lightweight, which may be prone to snagging on sharp brush
Limited color options available

Setup, Compatibility & Care

To ensure your Salomon track pants maintain their performance characteristics, always wash them in cool water on a gentle cycle. Avoid using fabric softeners, as these can strip the durable water-repellent (DWR) coating from the fabric. To reactivate the water-repellent properties after several washes, you may tumble dry on low heat or apply a DWR spray treatment as needed. When sizing, utilize the integrated belt to cinch the waist after putting on the pants to ensure the most secure fit for your specific body shape.
