Setup, Compatibility & Care
Planting:
- Choose a location that receives full sun.
- Ensure the soil is moist but well-drained. Amend heavy clay soil with organic matter.
- Dig a hole twice the width of the plant's root ball and to the same depth.
- Place the plant in the hole, ensuring the top of the root ball is level with the soil surface.
- Backfill the hole with soil and water thoroughly.
Watering:
Keep the plant well-watered, especially during the establishment period and dry spells. Once established, it requires less frequent watering but should not be allowed to dry out completely.
Pruning:
Trim lightly in summer if needed to maintain its shape or remove spent flowers. Avoid heavy pruning, especially in autumn, to protect against frost damage.
Winter Care:
In colder climates (below H3 hardiness zone), provide protection such as a layer of mulch around the base or move container-grown plants to a sheltered location like a cold frame or unheated greenhouse.
Compatibility:
Thrives in mixed borders with other sun-loving, well-drained plants. Avoid areas with prolonged waterlogging.
