This caliper is designed for measuring internal dimensions, such as the diameter of holes or the width of internal grooves.
Ensure the caliper jaws are set slightly larger than the opening, insert them carefully, and then tighten the adjustment screw until a light, consistent pressure is felt against the internal walls. Hold the caliper perpendicular to the surface.
It refers to the type of pivot mechanism that uses a bowed spring to provide tension and keep the caliper jaws closed or open, allowing for adjustment.
No, this is specifically an internal caliper designed for measuring inside dimensions. External measurements require a different type of caliper.
It means the caliper meets specific British Standards for spring joint calipers, indicating a level of quality, dimensional accuracy, and performance defined by the standard.
Store the caliper in a clean, dry place, preferably in a protective case or on a clean surface where the jaws won't be subjected to pressure or damage.
Check the adjustment screw for debris or damage. Clean and lightly lubricate the screw threads. Ensure the bow spring is not bent.
Ensure the caliper is held perpendicular to the surface being measured. Check that the adjustment screw is tightened evenly and that the bow spring provides consistent pressure.
Clean the rust gently with a fine-grade steel wool and then apply a light coat of oil for protection. Ensure the tool is dried thoroughly after cleaning and stored in a dry environment.
Setup: These calipers require no complex setup. They are ready for use out of the box. Ensure the adjustment screw moves freely.
Compatibility: Designed for general internal measurement tasks. Compatible with standard workshop environments.
Care: To maintain accuracy and longevity:
