Setup, Compatibility & Care
Setup & Fitting
Proper fitting is crucial for the Halti Headcollar's effectiveness and your dog's comfort. Follow these steps:
- Fit the Nose Band: Gently slide the nose band onto your dog's snout. Ensure it sits comfortably high on their nose, just below the eyes. It should allow your dog to fully open their mouth for panting, eating, and drinking without restriction.
- Adjust the Neck Strap: Bring the neck strap behind your dog's ears and fasten the buckle. Adjust the strap so it's snug but not tight; you should be able to comfortably slip two fingers underneath. The headcollar should not be able to rotate easily or slip off the head.
- Attach the Safety Link: Always attach the small safety clip on the Halti Headcollar to your dog's regular collar's D-ring. This provides a vital backup in case the headcollar comes loose or is removed by your dog.
- Attach Your Lead: Clip your walking lead to the O-ring located under your dog's chin. For optimal results and the full 'no pull' training experience, use a double-ended Halti Training Lead, connecting one end to the headcollar and the other to your dog's regular collar.
Compatibility
The Halti Headcollar is designed for dogs of all breeds and sizes that exhibit lead-pulling behavior. This X-Large variant is suitable for larger breeds. It's an excellent tool for puppies beginning lead training (once they are old enough) and adult dogs who have established pulling habits. The design ensures it does not interfere with their ability to pant, drink, or eat.
Care
To ensure the longevity and hygiene of your Halti Headcollar, follow these care instructions:
- Cleaning: Hand wash the headcollar gently with mild soap (like pet-safe shampoo or dish soap) and cool water. Focus on areas that come into contact with your dog's fur and mouth. Rinse thoroughly to remove all soap residue.
- Drying: Allow the headcollar to air dry completely. Do not machine wash or tumble dry, as this can damage the nylon webbing, neoprene padding, and reflective elements.
- Inspection: Regularly inspect the headcollar for any signs of wear and tear, such as frayed webbing, loose stitching, or damaged buckles. Replace the headcollar if you notice significant damage to ensure continued safety and effectiveness.
