FAQs

What is the diameter of the shade?

The shade diameter for the Claridge Wall Light is 205mm.

Can I use this light outdoors?

This fixture is designed for indoor use as it features an ungalvanised brass finish.

Does the light come with a bulb?

Please check your specific package contents, as bulbs are typically sold separately.

How do I keep the brass shiny?

You can maintain the high-gloss sheen by using a dedicated brass polish whenever you notice the finish dulling.

Can the light be dimmed?

Yes, this fixture is generally compatible with dimmer switches, provided you use a compatible dimmable light bulb.

Are the variations in the finish a defect?

No, these are standard characteristics of the hand-crafted production process and make each piece unique.

Troubleshooting

The light shade will not stay in the desired position.

Check the tension screws at the pivot points and tighten them slightly using the appropriate tool.

The brass finish is developing dark spots.

This is a natural oxidation process. Use a brass-safe polish to remove spots if a bright finish is desired.

Pros and Cons

Pros

Elegant, timeless aesthetic suitable for traditional and modern interiors
Fully adjustable arm and shade for precision lighting
High-quality solid brass material provides long-term durability
Can be allowed to develop a natural patina or maintained to a high shine

Cons

Requires regular polishing to maintain the original glossy finish
Hand-crafted nature may result in minor inconsistencies
Non-galvanised finish may react to environmental humidity over time

Setup, Compatibility & Care

Installation should be performed by a qualified electrician to ensure safety and code compliance. Given the wall-mounted nature of the fixture, ensure your mounting surface can support the weight of the solid brass components.

Maintenance Tips:

To maintain shine: Use a high-quality brass polish periodically to remove oxidation and restore the glossy finish.
For a natural look: If you prefer the aesthetic of aged metal, simply dust the fixture with a soft, dry cloth and avoid chemical cleaners, which allows the brass to develop a unique patina over time.
Compatibility: Ensure the bulb wattage used does not exceed the manufacturer's maximum recommended limit to protect the shade interior.
