Product Information

Full details

The Loops 350mm Bolt Cropper is designed for tradespeople and DIY enthusiasts who require a reliable tool for cutting through hardware like bolts, chains, and wires. It offers a powerful cutting force thanks to its high-quality Chrome Molybdenum steel jaws, allowing for clean cuts on soft and medium-hard metals. While highly efficient, it is important to note that the tool is limited to materials with a maximum hardness of 35 HRC, meaning it should not be used on hardened steel or high-tensile bolts.

FAQs

Can I use this to cut high-tensile steel bolts?

No, this tool is designed for materials up to 35 HRC hardness. Attempting to cut hardened steel may result in permanent damage to the jaws.

What is the maximum thickness it can cut?

It can cut soft metals up to 7mm and medium metals up to 5mm.

How do I maintain the pivot bolt?

Keep the pivot bolt lubricated with a light machine oil to ensure the jaws open and close smoothly.

Is this tool suitable for professional use?

Yes, it is constructed for durability and is suitable for both DIY enthusiasts and professional tradespeople for light-to-medium duty tasks.

Can I sharpen the jaws if they get dull?

Professional sharpening is not recommended as it may compromise the original heat treatment of the Chrome Molybdenum steel.

Troubleshooting

Jaws are failing to cut through the material

Ensure the material hardness is within the 35 HRC limit and verify the material diameter is within the 7mm (soft) or 5mm (medium) range.

The tool feels stiff during operation

Apply a small amount of penetrating oil or machine oil to the main pivot point and work the handles back and forth to distribute it.

Handle grips are sliding off

Clean the steel handle surface with a degreaser and re-apply the grips using a small amount of rubber-safe adhesive if necessary.

Pros and Cons

Pros

  • Durable Chrome Molybdenum steel construction
  • Lightweight at only 0.93kg for easy maneuverability
  • Ergonomic grips improve user comfort
  • High leverage design for efficient cutting

Cons

  • Not suitable for hardened steel above 35 HRC
  • 350mm length provides less leverage than larger industrial models
  • Cutting capacity decreases as material hardness increases

Setup, Compatibility & Care

This tool requires no formal setup and is ready for use immediately upon unboxing. To ensure the longevity of your bolt cropper, follow these maintenance practices:

  • Cleaning: Wipe the jaws clean of metal shavings and dust after each use using a dry cloth.
  • Lubrication: Periodically apply a light machine oil to the pivot bolt to maintain smooth opening and closing action.
  • Storage: Store in a dry environment to prevent surface corrosion. If storing in a damp area, keep the jaws lightly oiled.
  • Inspection: Regularly check the cutting edges for nicks or wear. Never attempt to grind or sharpen the jaws with power tools, as this can destroy the heat treatment of the steel.
