Setup, Compatibility & Care
Compatibility:
Vehicle compatibility is crucial. Always verify that the NGK Iridium Spark Plug 3106 (IGR7A-G) is listed as a direct replacement for your specific vehicle make, model, and year. Consult your vehicle's owner's manual or a reliable parts catalog. Note that alternative part numbers like 408690031 or OE numbers like TBA-3106 may cross-reference to this plug.
Installation:
- Safety First: Ensure the engine is cool and disconnected from the battery.
- Access: Remove any engine covers or components obstructing access to the spark plugs.
- Removal: Carefully use a spark plug socket wrench to unscrew and remove the old spark plug.
- Inspection: Visually inspect the new spark plug for any defects before installation.
- Gapping (if necessary): While iridium plugs are often pre-gapped, always check the manufacturer's recommended gap for your application. Use a proper gapping tool if adjustment is needed.
- Installation: Thread the new spark plug in by hand to avoid cross-threading. Once seated, use a torque wrench to tighten it to the manufacturer's specified torque. Over-tightening can damage the plug or cylinder head.
- Reassembly: Reconnect ignition wires or coil packs and reassemble any removed components.
Care:
Spark plugs are designed for long service life and generally require no ongoing care. However, during routine maintenance like oil changes, it's good practice to visually inspect them for signs of wear, fouling, or damage. If removing them for inspection, re-torque them properly upon reinstallation.
