Setup, Compatibility & Care
Setup:
Assembly is designed to be straightforward. Follow the included manual for step-by-step instructions, which typically involve connecting the steel panels to form the planter shape and securing them. Ensure all components are aligned correctly before tightening connections.
Compatibility:
This planter is compatible with all types of soil and plant life suitable for outdoor gardening. Its robust construction makes it suitable for direct placement on lawns, gravel, or solid patio surfaces. Due to its size and weight when filled, consider its final location before assembly.
Care:
Corten steel is known for its low maintenance. However, care should be taken during the initial weeks or months as the rust layer develops:
- Rust Stains: The planter will naturally shed rust particles as it weathers. To prevent staining adjacent surfaces (like concrete patios or light-colored decks), you can place a protective barrier or drip tray underneath, especially during heavy rainfall, or consider placing it on gravel.
- Cleaning: Clean the exterior with a damp cloth or a soft brush to remove dust and debris. Avoid abrasive cleaners, as they can damage the protective rust layer.
- Accelerating Rust (Optional): If you wish to speed up the rusting process and achieve the full brown patina faster, you can spray the surface with a mixture of water, salt, and a small amount of dish soap. Allow it to dry, and repeat as needed. Ensure good ventilation during this process.
- Positioning: Once the protective rust layer has stabilized, staining is significantly reduced, and the planter can be placed with less concern.
