FAQs

Can these end caps be used for gas lines?

Yes, these fittings are suitable for gas installations provided they are installed in accordance with local building regulations and gas safety standards.

Are these suitable for drinking water?

Yes, these are WRAS approved, making them safe for use in potable (drinking) water systems.

Can I use these with plastic pipe?

No, these are copper endfeed fittings designed specifically for copper pipework.

What is the benefit of an endfeed fitting?

Endfeed fittings create a stronger, more permanent, and low-profile connection compared to compression fittings.

Do I need a specific type of solder?

For potable water, you must use lead-free plumbing solder.

Troubleshooting

Solder will not flow into the joint

Ensure the surfaces are thoroughly cleaned of oxidation and check that sufficient heat is being applied evenly around the pipe.

Small leak detected after soldering

Allow the joint to cool completely, clean the area, re-apply flux, and re-heat to allow the solder to re-flow.

Pros and Cons

Pros

  • Meets EN 1254 standards
  • Fully WRAS approved for drinking water
  • Reliable and permanent connection
  • Kite marked for quality assurance
  • Durable copper construction

Cons

  • Requires professional soldering tools and skills
  • Permanent installation is difficult to remove
  • Requires pipe preparation (cleaning/fluxing)

Setup, Compatibility & Care

To ensure a secure installation, follow these steps:

  1. Preparation: Cut the 12mm copper pipe squarely and remove all burrs using a deburring tool.
  2. Cleaning: Use a wire wool or abrasive pad to clean the end of the pipe and the inside of the fitting until they are bright and shiny.
  3. Fluxing: Apply a thin, even layer of suitable soldering flux to both the pipe end and the interior of the end cap.
  4. Soldering: Push the cap onto the pipe and heat the joint uniformly using a blowtorch. Once the flux begins to bubble, apply lead-free solder wire to the edge of the joint. The solder will be drawn into the gap by capillary action.
  5. Care: Once cool, wipe away excess flux with a damp cloth to prevent corrosion. For gas installations, always ensure you are using gas-approved soldering materials and verify all joints with a leak detection spray after pressurization.
