Product Information

Full details

The TIMco Hex Stitching Screw is designed for professionals needing a reliable solution for joining metal roofing sheets and steel fabrication. Its key benefit is the self-drilling capability, eliminating the need for pre-drilling, which speeds up installation. A minor caveat is its suitability for urban and industrial environments with low salt atmospheres, as extreme marine conditions might test its corrosion resistance limits.

FAQs

Do I need to pre-drill holes for these screws?

No, these screws feature a self-drilling point and a tapered shank, meaning they are designed to penetrate metal sheets up to 1.6mm thick without any pre-drilling.

What is the maximum thickness of metal these screws can fasten?

The TIMco Hex Stitching Screw can penetrate and fasten sheet steel up to a maximum thickness of 1.6mm.

What does the Ruspert plating offer?

Ruspert plating provides robust corrosion resistance, tested to withstand up to 1,000 hours of salt-spray testing, making the screws durable in urban and industrial environments.

Are these screws suitable for coastal or marine environments?

While they offer good corrosion resistance, they are best suited for urban and industrial environments with low salt atmospheres. For extreme marine conditions, consult product specifications for higher-grade corrosion resistance.

What size socket is required for installation?

A 8mm socket is required for driving these hexagon head screws.

What is the purpose of the integrated EPDM washer?

The 16mm EPDM washer creates a weather-sealed connection, which is crucial for preventing water ingress in roofing and external applications.

How many screws are included in a box?

Each box contains 100 screws.

Troubleshooting

Screw not penetrating the metal

Ensure the metal sheet thickness does not exceed 1.6mm. Verify the self-drilling point is sharp and free from damage. Use adequate drill speed and consistent pressure.

Stripped screw head

Ensure you are using the correct 8mm socket size. Avoid over-tightening. If the head is already stripped, you may need to carefully remove it and replace it with a new screw.

Connection feels loose

Check that the screw has been driven fully into the material. Ensure the metal sheets are held firmly together during installation. Verify the material thickness is within the screw's capacity.

Corrosion observed on screws

Inspect the environment for extreme corrosive elements. While Ruspert offers good resistance, prolonged exposure to high salt concentrations or harsh chemicals may impact longevity. For such conditions, consider specialized fasteners.

Pros and Cons

Pros

Speeds up installation by removing the need for pre-drilling.
Excellent corrosion resistance suitable for most environments.
Provides a secure and weather-sealed connection.
Robust construction for metal-to-metal fastening.
Efficient drive control with the hexagon head.

Cons

Not ideal for extreme marine environments with high salt exposure.
Limited to a maximum drilling thickness of 1.6mm.
Requires an 8mm socket driver, which may not be universally available.
Sold in boxes of 100, which may be more than needed for small jobs.

Setup, Compatibility & Care

Setup: To use the TIMco Hex Stitching Screw, ensure you have a power drill or impact driver equipped with an 8mm socket. Align the screw with the metal sheets to be joined, ensuring the self-drilling point is in contact with the surface. Apply steady pressure and drive the screw until the head is snug against the washer and the connection is secure. Do not over-tighten, as this could strip the threads or damage the material.

Compatibility: These screws are designed for joining sheet steel with a maximum thickness of 1.6mm. They are compatible with most standard metal roofing materials and common sheet steel gauges encountered in fabrication. The 8mm hexagon head requires a corresponding socket driver.

Care: The Ruspert plating offers excellent corrosion resistance. However, to maintain performance, avoid abrasive cleaners. If the screws are exposed to harsh chemicals or environments beyond their tested limits, inspect them periodically for any signs of corrosion. Store screws in a dry place to prevent premature degradation of the plating.
