FAQs

Does this door come pre-finished?

No, this is an unfinished door blank that requires you to apply your own paint, stain, or protective coating.

Can I trim this door to fit a non-standard frame?

While the lipped design provides stability, you should consult a professional carpenter to ensure that trimming does not compromise the fire-check integrity or the structural edge.

Is this suitable for front door use?

Yes, this door is engineered for exterior use, provided it is properly finished with weather-resistant materials.

What does the firecheck feature entail?

The firecheck feature indicates the door is constructed to meet specific fire-resistance safety standards, providing extra protection compared to standard non-fire-rated blanks.

Does the door come with a handle or lock?

No, hardware such as hinges, handles, and locks must be purchased and installed separately.

Why is the lipped design important?

The lipped design covers the gap between the door and the frame, providing better weather sealing and a more professional, integrated aesthetic.

Troubleshooting

Difficulty closing the door after installation

Check that the door is correctly plumb and square. Ensure that the hinges are properly recessed and the lipped edge is not binding against the frame.

Surface finish bubbling or peeling

Ensure the door was completely dry before the initial coating and that an appropriate exterior-grade product was used.

Setup, Compatibility & Care

Installation should be performed by a qualified carpenter to ensure the integrity of the lipped edge and proper alignment with the door frame.

Preparation: Measure the frame carefully. Ensure the door is stored flat in a dry environment before installation.
Finishing: Apply a high-quality exterior wood stain, oil, or paint to all six sides, including the top and bottom edges, before mounting hardware to lock out moisture.
Hardware: Select heavy-duty exterior hinges and locking mechanisms compatible with fire-rated door assemblies.
Maintenance: Regularly inspect the finish for signs of wear or cracking. Re-apply protective coatings every 1-2 years depending on sun and rain exposure.
