Setup, Compatibility & Care
Planting:
- Choose a location that receives full sun to partial shade.
- Ensure the soil is well-drained. If drainage is poor, amend the soil with compost or grit.
- Dig a hole twice the width of the plant's root ball and to the same depth.
- Gently remove the plant from its 3-litre pot. Loosen any compacted roots.
- Place the plant in the hole, ensuring the top of the root ball is level with the soil surface.
- Backfill the hole with soil, firming gently around the base.
- Water thoroughly after planting.
Care:
- Watering: Water regularly, especially during the first growing season, to help the plants establish. Once established, they are relatively drought-tolerant but benefit from watering during prolonged dry spells.
- Pruning: Prune immediately after flowering (typically late spring) to maintain shape, control size, and encourage dense growth. Remove any dead, damaged, or crossing branches at any time.
- Feeding: Generally, no feeding is required. If growth is poor, a light application of a balanced fertilizer in spring can be beneficial.
Compatibility:
These shrubs are suitable for most garden types and soil conditions, provided they are well-drained. They integrate well with other spring-flowering plants and shrubs.
