Full details

Designed for indoor gardeners and terrarium enthusiasts, these Fallen Fruits white drainage stones provide a functional foundation for both open and closed plant ecosystems. FAQs

Do I need to wash these stones before use?

Yes, rinsing the stones until the water runs clear is highly recommended to prevent dust from clouding your terrarium glass.

Can these be used for reptile terrariums?

Yes, they are suitable for reptile and amphibian enclosures, provided they are kept clean and the animal cannot ingest them.

How deep should the drainage layer be?

A depth of 2 to 5 centimeters is generally sufficient for most desktop-sized terrariums.

Are these stones safe for aquatic plants?

These stones are inert and safe for most terrarium applications, though you should ensure the substrate does not alter the pH if you are using them in a water-filled environment.

Does a 5kg bag cover a standard size terrarium?

A 5kg bag is quite substantial and is typically enough to cover the bottom of several medium-sized terrariums or one very large glass display.

Troubleshooting

Cloudy water in the drainage layer

This is usually caused by residual dust. If possible, siphon out the water and replace it with fresh, filtered water.

Stones are shifting and mixing with soil

Use a layer of landscape fabric or specialized terrarium mesh between the stones and the soil to maintain separation.

Pros and Cons

Pros

  • Prevents waterlogging in plants
  • Provides a clean, professional aesthetic
  • Versatile for various terrarium styles
  • Substantial 5kg quantity per package
  • High-quality, consistent stone size

Cons

  • Requires rinsing to remove initial dust
  • Not suitable for plants that require water-retentive bases
  • Heavy package size may be difficult to store
  • Stones cannot be easily removed once soil is layered on top

Setup, Compatibility & Care

Before adding the stones to your glass container, pour them into a colander and rinse them under running water until the runoff is clear. This removes stone dust that would otherwise smear the inside of your glass. Once dry, pour the stones into the bottom of your container, spreading them evenly to create a level surface.

These stones are compatible with most standard glass terrariums, aquarium tanks, and reptile enclosures. To maintain, simply avoid overwatering your plants; if the water line in the drainage layer reaches more than halfway up the stones, use a turkey baster or pipette to siphon out the excess moisture to keep your ecosystem healthy.
