Full details

This D-C-Fix Self-Adhesive Vinyl Film is designed for homeowners and DIY enthusiasts looking to quickly and affordably update surfaces like kitchen counters, furniture, and tabletops. FAQs

Can I apply this film over existing laminate or tiles?

Yes, as long as the existing laminate or tiles are smooth, clean, and free of damage. Ensure the surface is completely flat for best adhesion.

How do I remove the film if I want to change it?

Gently heat the film with a hairdryer to soften the adhesive. Carefully peel the film back at a low angle. If residue remains, it can usually be removed with a mild adhesive remover.

Is this film suitable for a shower area?

It is not recommended for direct or prolonged exposure to water, especially in shower cubicles. While wipeable, it's best suited for surfaces that do not get constantly wet. Edges should be well-sealed if used near wet areas like sinks.

What is the warranty period for this product?

The D-C-Fix Self-Adhesive Vinyl Film comes with a 1-year guarantee.

Can I place hot pans directly on the film?

No, the film is heat resistant up to 70ºC (158ºF). Direct contact with hot pans will damage the surface.

How do I order multiple meters to get a continuous piece?

You can order multiple meters, and D-C-Fix will provide a single continuous piece up to a maximum of 15 meters per roll.

Is the material safe for use in kitchens?

Yes, the material is phthalate-free and made in Germany, ensuring it meets safety standards for home use.

Troubleshooting

Air bubbles remain after application

Gently lift the affected section of the film and reapply, smoothing outwards with a felt smoother. For stubborn bubbles, you can prick them with a fine needle and press flat.

Film is not sticking properly

Ensure the surface is thoroughly clean and dry. Reheat the adhesive side slightly with a hairdryer and reapply pressure. For very porous surfaces, a light primer might be needed, though this is not ideal for temporary applications.

Edges are lifting, especially near water

Apply a thin bead of silicone sealant along the edges where the film meets the surface, particularly around sinks and hobs, to create a waterproof barrier.

Difficulty applying on curved surfaces

Use a hairdryer on a medium setting to gently warm the vinyl. This makes it more pliable and easier to stretch and mold around curves. Work in small sections and smooth as you go.

Film tore during application

If the tear is small, you may be able to patch it with a spare piece of film. For larger tears, you will likely need to replace the section or the entire piece.

Setup, Compatibility & Care

Setup:

  1. Prepare Surface: Ensure the target surface is clean, dry, and smooth. Remove any grease, dust, or old adhesive.
  2. Measure & Cut: Measure the area and use the cutting grid on the reverse of the film to cut your piece, adding a slight overlap if necessary.
  3. Apply: Peel back a small section of the backing paper. Carefully align the film with the edge of the surface and apply it, pressing down gently.
  4. Smooth: Use a felt edge smoother or a clean, soft cloth to work from the center outwards, removing air bubbles as you go.
  5. Corners & Curves: For rounded edges, gently warm the film with a hairdryer to make it pliable, then carefully stretch and smooth it into place.
  6. Trim: Use a sharp utility cutter to trim any excess film along the edges.

  • This film is designed for application on any *flat, smooth, and clean* surface.
  • Not recommended for textured, porous, or uneven surfaces.
  • Suitable for kitchen countertops, furniture, tabletops, cabinet doors, and walls.
