Full details

The Perry Medium Auto Gate Catch No.1932 is designed for homeowners seeking an automated, secure closing solution for medium-sized wooden gates and outdoor doors, particularly bin storage or garden gates. Its key benefit is the automatic latching mechanism that ensures gates swing closed and stay secured without manual intervention, enhancing convenience and security. A potential consideration is that it is engineered for medium-degree usage, meaning very heavy or high-frequency use may require a more robust solution. This hardware offers a durable, low-maintenance, and corrosion-resistant option for improving outdoor access points.

FAQs

What size gates is this catch suitable for?

This auto gate catch is designed for medium-sized wooden gates and doors.

Does the catch require manual locking?

No, the primary function is automatic latching. It secures the gate by swinging closed and engaging the catch. It does not include a manual lock.

Is this gate catch suitable for all weather conditions?

Yes, the galvanised finish provides corrosion resistance, making it suitable for outdoor use in various weather conditions.

How do I install the Perry Medium Auto Gate Catch?

Installation typically involves screwing the catch mechanism to the gate post and the gate itself. Ensure proper alignment for smooth operation. Specific screw types may vary based on your gate and post material.

What kind of maintenance is required?

The gate catch is low-maintenance. Periodically clean with a damp cloth to remove debris and check for proper alignment and operation.

Can this be used on metal gates?

While designed for wooden gates, it might be adaptable to lightweight metal gates if appropriate mounting hardware is used and alignment can be achieved.

What does 'medium-degree usage' mean?

'Medium-degree usage' refers to typical residential use, such as a garden gate or bin shed door that is opened and closed multiple times a day, but not subject to constant, heavy traffic or industrial use.

Troubleshooting

Gate does not latch automatically.

Ensure the gate swings freely and has a slight momentum towards the closed position. Check that the catch components are properly aligned and not obstructed by debris. Adjust the mounting position if necessary.

Catch mechanism appears stiff or difficult to operate.

Inspect the mechanism for dirt, paint, or other obstructions. Clean with a damp cloth and ensure all moving parts are free. Lubrication is generally not required due to the design, but check for any signs of damage.

Corrosion or rust appearing on the finish.

While the galvanised finish provides protection, prolonged exposure to harsh environments can lead to surface rust. Clean the affected area and consider applying a suitable metal protectant if minor surface rust appears.

Setup, Compatibility & Care

Setup: Ensure the gate swings freely and aligns correctly with the catch mechanism. The gate catch can be mounted directly to the gate post and gate, typically using screws (not included). Follow the manufacturer's recommendations for placement to ensure the automatic latch engages smoothly.

Compatibility: This auto gate catch is primarily designed for medium-sized wooden gates and doors. It is most effective on gates that have a slight inward or outward swing bias to aid the latching action.

Care: The galvanised finish offers inherent corrosion resistance. Clean the mechanism periodically with a damp cloth to remove dirt or debris. Avoid using abrasive cleaners that could damage the finish. Check for proper alignment and smooth operation annually.
