Setup, Compatibility & Care
To ensure success, plant your bulbs in autumn in well-drained soil. If your garden has heavy clay, mix in horticultural grit to improve drainage. For container planting, use a quality potting mix and ensure the pot has drainage holes at the base. While these are outdoor-hardy, if you choose to force them indoors, ensure the temperature remains below 10°C (50°F) to prevent leggy growth. During the active growing season, provide a light feed, but avoid heavy fertilization which can lead to excessive foliage at the expense of flower development. Always keep the soil moist but ensure it is never waterlogged, as this is the primary cause of bulb failure.
