Product Information

Full details

This Loops Battery Starter & Charger Unit is designed for fleet operators managing cars and van derivatives who need a reliable tool for both charging batteries and providing boost power for vehicles with flat batteries. Its key benefit is the dual voltage capability (12V and 24V) and robust charging/starting current. A potential caveat is that it's primarily suited for fleet environments and may be overkill for casual personal use. This versatile device features an easy-to-read ammeter, an illuminated power switch, dual output, built-in polarity protection, and a panel-mounted fuse for circuit protection, supporting batteries from 15Ah to 300Ah.

FAQs

What is the maximum charging current?

The unit provides a maximum charge current of 30A, with an EN rated charge of 20A.

What is the maximum starting current?

The unit delivers a maximum starting current of 160A, with an EN rated start of 100A.

What types of batteries can this unit charge?

It is designed for lead-acid batteries within the 15Ah to 300Ah capacity range.

Does the unit protect against incorrect clamp connection?

Yes, it features built-in polarity protection to help prevent damage from incorrect clamp connections.

How do I know if the unit is operating correctly?

The illuminated power switch indicates when the unit is on, and the easy-to-read ammeter shows the charging or starting current.

Can I use this unit for motorcycles?

While it supports 12V, it is primarily designed for larger batteries (15Ah minimum). For smaller motorcycle batteries, a dedicated charger may be more suitable.

What should I do if the fuse blows?

If the panel-mounted fuse blows, it indicates an overload or short circuit. Replace it with a fuse of the same amperage rating after identifying and rectifying the cause of the fault.

Troubleshooting

Unit does not power on.

Ensure the power cord is securely plugged into a working outlet. Check that the illuminated power switch is in the 'ON' position. Verify the panel-mounted fuse is intact and not blown.

No charge or start current indicated on the ammeter.

Confirm the clamps are securely attached to the correct battery terminals (+ to + and - to -). Ensure the correct voltage (12V or 24V) is selected. Check that the battery voltage is within the operational range of the unit.

Unit shuts down during operation.

The unit may have overheated or a circuit protection has been triggered. Allow the unit to cool down. Check for any short circuits or overload conditions. Ensure adequate ventilation around the unit.

Clamps are not gripping the battery terminals securely.

Ensure battery terminals are clean and free from corrosion. Adjust clamp position for a firm connection. Replace clamps if they are damaged or worn.

Pros and Cons

Pros

  • Versatile dual voltage (12V/24V) operation.
  • High starting current for reliable jump-starts.
  • Suitable for a wide range of battery capacities (15-300Ah).
