Yes, Humbrol enamel is specifically formulated to adhere well to most common plastics used in model kits.
While it can be applied directly, using a primer will provide a more consistent surface and improve the final finish, especially on non-porous materials like metal or glass.
You must use an enamel thinner or white spirit to clean your brushes. Water will not remove the paint.
Because it is a solvent-based paint, you must use it in a well-ventilated area or use a spray booth with an extraction fan to avoid inhaling fumes.
No. You should never mix enamel paints with acrylic paints, as they have different chemical bases and will curdle or fail to cure.
Wait at least 2 hours to ensure the first coat is fully touch-dry before applying a second layer.
This is usually caused by inadequate mixing. Stir the paint thoroughly with a palette knife or stirrer for at least two minutes before use.
This often occurs if the paint was applied too thickly or in an environment that is too humid. Try applying thinner coats in a climate-controlled space.
Add a small amount of compatible enamel thinner to the mix until you reach a consistency similar to single cream.
Before application, ensure the surface is clean, dry, and free from oils or dust to guarantee maximum adhesion. If thinning the paint for airbrushing, always mix in a separate container before adding to your paint cup. For brush care, you must use a dedicated enamel thinner or white spirit; do not attempt to clean your brushes with water. Store the tin in a cool, dry place and ensure the lid is sealed tightly after every use to prevent the solvent from evaporating and the paint from skinning over.
