Setup, Compatibility & Care
Sowing Seeds:
- Sow Sisyrinchium seed from February to April.
- Use a free-draining, damp seed compost.
- Sow at a depth of 1.5mm.
- Cover lightly with vermiculite.
- Place the container in a propagator or seal in a plastic bag.
- Maintain a temperature of 10-15°C (50-59°F) until germination.
- Important: Do not exclude light, as it aids germination.
Germination & Transplanting:
- Germination can be erratic, taking anywhere from 30 to 180 days.
- Once seedlings are large enough to handle, transplant them into trays or 7.5cm (3”) pots.
- Grow on in cooler conditions.
Planting Out:
- When plants are well-grown and all risk of frost has passed, gradually acclimatize them to outdoor conditions over 7-10 days.
- Plant out in moist, fertile, well-drained soil.
- Position: Full sun.
Watering:
- Water regularly until plants are fully established.
Care:
- Cut back old foliage to just above ground level in autumn to maintain a tidy appearance.
Compatibility:
- Ideal for the front of borders, containers, and rock gardens.
- Prefers full sun conditions.
