Setup, Compatibility & Care
Compatibility:
- Trailer Model: Ifor Williams HB505 and HB510 horseboxes.
- MAM: Up to 2700kg.
- Brake Adjusters: Fit trailers manufactured *post-2003* only.
- Crucial Check: It is essential to visually compare all included parts against your trailer's original components *before* commencing installation. Variations can occur even within specified models.
Setup (General Guidance - Professional Fitting Recommended):
- Safely jack up the trailer and secure it.
- Remove the wheel.
- Access the brake drum and remove the old brake shoes, springs, and expander.
- Clean the brake drum interior.
- Install the new brake shoes with their carriers and springs.
- Fit the new brake shoe expander.
- Replace the brake adjuster mechanism if applicable (ensure correct fitment for post-2003).
- Route and connect the new brake cables (front and rear axle).
- Reinstall the wheel and lower the trailer.
- Repeat for all wheels.
- Adjust the brakes according to the trailer manufacturer's specifications.
Care:
- Regularly inspect brake components for wear, damage, or corrosion.
- Keep brake areas clean from excessive dirt and debris.
- Ensure brake cables move freely; lubricate pivot points if necessary and accessible.
- After initial fitting and after a short bedding-in period (approx. 50-100 miles), re-check and re-adjust brake settings.
