Product Information

Full details

The Alessi Piana Folding Chair, designed by architect David Chipperfield, is an ideal choice for urban dwellers and design enthusiasts who need flexible, stylish seating without sacrificing floor space. It delivers the perfect blend of high-end minimalist aesthetics and robust utility, making it suitable for both indoor dining rooms and outdoor patios. While its glass-fibre reinforced polypropylene construction is highly durable, prospective buyers should note that as a folding chair, it does not offer the same deep ergonomic cushioning found in permanent, fixed-frame seating.

FAQs

Is the Alessi Piana chair comfortable for long periods?

It is designed as a functional, minimalist chair. While sturdy and stable, it does not feature padding, so it is best suited for dining or occasional use rather than extended lounging.

Can this chair be left outside permanently?

The material is glass-fibre reinforced polypropylene, which is weather-resistant. However, to maintain the finish and color vibrancy over time, it is best to store it indoors when not in use.

How thick is the chair when folded?

The Piana is specifically engineered to fold completely flat, allowing it to be tucked away into extremely tight spaces.

What are the dimensions of the chair?

The chair stands 90 cm high, with a length of 52 cm and a width of 46 cm.

Are there different color options?

Yes, the Piana range is available in several colors including Black, White, Grey, and Red.

Troubleshooting

Chair feels stiff when folding

Ensure no dust or debris is trapped in the hinge mechanism and check that the locking pin is not obstructed.

Surface scuffing

Use a specialized plastic restorer or a gentle buffing cloth with light soapy water to minimize the appearance of minor surface marks.

Setup, Compatibility & Care

The Piana arrives fully assembled, requiring no tools for initial setup. To open the chair, simply pull the seat downward until the hinge locks into place. To fold, pull the seat upward towards the backrest.

Care Instructions:

  • Clean regularly with a soft cloth and mild, non-abrasive soap.
  • Avoid using harsh chemical cleaners or steel wool, which may scratch the finish.
  • While the chair is outdoor-rated, it is recommended to store it in a dry, covered area during extreme weather to extend its aesthetic lifespan.
  • Check hinge points periodically to ensure they remain free of debris.
