Setup, Compatibility & Care
Initial Setup:
- Seasoning: Before first use, wash the pan with warm, soapy water and dry it thoroughly. Apply a thin layer of cooking oil (like vegetable or flaxseed oil) to the entire surface, including the cavities and exterior. Place the pan in a preheated oven at 400°F (200°C) for one hour. Allow it to cool completely before wiping off any excess oil.
- Repeat Seasoning: For optimal performance and to build a protective layer, repeat the seasoning process 2-3 times.
Compatibility:
This pan is compatible with all heat sources, including:
- Gas stovetops
- Electric coil stovetops
- Ceramic glass cooktops
- Induction cooktops
Care and Maintenance:
- Cleaning: After each use, clean the pan while it is still warm (but not hot). Avoid using harsh detergents or abrasive scrubbers, which can damage the seasoning. Use a soft sponge or brush and hot water. For stuck-on food, simmer water in the pan for a few minutes or use a pan scraper.
- Drying: Always dry the pan immediately and thoroughly with a soft cloth after washing. Leaving it to air dry can lead to rust.
- Oiling: After drying, apply a very thin layer of cooking oil to the cooking surface to protect it from moisture and prevent rust.
- Storage: Store the pan in a dry place. If stacking, place a paper towel or pan protector between pans to prevent scratching and absorb any residual moisture.
- Avoid Dishwashers: Never put cast iron in a dishwasher.
- Avoid Extreme Temperature Changes: Do not plunge a hot pan into cold water, as this can cause thermal shock and crack the cast iron.
