Setup, Compatibility & Care
Setup Instructions
- Preparation: Clear the loft area where you intend to install the Loft Legs. Ensure you have adequate lighting and safety equipment (e.g., crawling boards, gloves, dust mask).
- Locate Joists: Identify your loft's 100mm trusses or ceiling joists. The Loft Legs are designed to fix directly onto these.
- Positioning: Place the base of a Loft Leg centrally on top of a joist. The spacing of your Loft Legs will depend on the size and type of loft boarding you plan to use. Typically, they are positioned to support the edges and center of your chosen boards.
- Secure Installation: Using appropriate screws (not included), securely fasten the Loft Leg to the joist through the designated holes in its base. Ensure a firm connection to prevent movement.
- Repeat: Continue installing Loft Legs across the desired area, maintaining consistent spacing for your loft boards.
- Install Boards: Once all Loft Legs are in place, lay your chosen loft boards (e.g., chipboard) on top of the Loft Legs and secure them using screws.
Compatibility
- Joists: Designed for use with standard 100mm wide timber trusses or ceiling joists.
- Insulation: Optimized for a 270mm depth of mineral wool or quilt insulation.
- Flooring: Compatible with most standard loft boarding materials (e.g., 18mm or 22mm chipboard, plywood).
Care & Maintenance
The Loft Leg requires minimal care. Once installed, it is a maintenance-free component of your loft storage system. Periodically, you may wish to:
- Check Fastenings: Ensure all screws remain tight, especially if heavy items are frequently moved in the loft.
- Inspect for Damage: While durable, check for any signs of physical damage, particularly if heavy objects have been dropped or shifted. Replace any damaged legs immediately.
- Keep Clear: Ensure the space created by the Loft Legs remains free of obstructions to allow the insulation beneath to 'loft' fully and maintain its thermal properties.
