Product Information
Full details
The Dreadbox Treminator is an analog signal/digital modulation tremolo effect pedal for guitarists and synth enthusiasts. It offers a unique, expressive tremolo sound by combining an LFO controlled by envelope generators and a VCA, with CV in/out for modular integration. While it provides deep creative control, its advanced features may require a learning curve for users new to CV or envelope-following effects.

FAQs
What makes the Treminator different from a standard tremolo pedal?
The Treminator uses an envelope follower to control the LFO rate and a VCA for modulation, allowing the tremolo to react dynamically to your playing dynamics, unlike standard tremolos with fixed LFOs.
Can I use this with my bass guitar?
Yes, the Treminator works with bass guitars. The envelope follower will react to the dynamics of your bass playing, creating expressive tremolo effects.
What is CV and how do I use it?
CV stands for Control Voltage. It's a way to send electrical signals between compatible devices (like modular synthesizers) to control parameters. The Treminator has inputs and outputs for CV to sync or control its effects with other gear.
Does it have a tap tempo function?
The Treminator does not feature a traditional tap tempo. Its tempo is primarily controlled by the LFO rate knob and can be dynamically modulated by the envelope follower or an external CV signal.
What kind of power supply does it require?
The Treminator typically requires a standard 9V DC power supply with a negative center pin. Please refer to the product manual for exact specifications.
Can I use multiple Treminators together?
Yes, you can chain multiple Treminators or use them with other effects pedals. For modular integration, you can use CV to link their functions or control them from a shared source.
Is the effect purely digital?
No, the Treminator uses an analog signal path for the audio, combined with digital control for the modulation sources (LFO, Envelope Generator), providing a blend of analog warmth and digital precision.
Troubleshooting
No sound or weak signal
Check all audio cable connections. Ensure the input signal is strong enough. Verify that the 'Intensity' control is not set to minimum.
Tremolo effect is not engaging or is static
Ensure the 'Rate' and 'Intensity' controls are set appropriately. Check if the Envelope Follower is engaged and receiving a signal with enough dynamic range. If using CV, verify the CV signal is sending modulation.
Unwanted noise or hum
Try a different power supply or outlet. Ensure all audio cables are properly shielded. Check for interference from other electronic devices.
CV inputs/outputs are not functioning as expected
Verify that you are using the correct type of patch cable for CV signals. Ensure the source CV signal is within the expected voltage range for the Treminator and that the destination is receiving it correctly.
Pros and Cons
Pros
- Highly expressive and unique tremolo sounds.
- Versatile for both guitarists and electronic musicians.
- Excellent integration with modular synth setups via CV.
- Robust analog signal path with digital modulation control.
- Offers deep customization beyond traditional tremolo pedals.
Cons
- Can have a steep learning curve due to advanced features like envelope following and CV.
- May be overly complex for users seeking a simple tremolo effect.
- Requires careful setup and understanding of modulation sources for optimal use.
Setup, Compatibility & Care
Setup:
Connect your instrument or audio source to the 'Input' jack and your amplifier or next effect in the chain to the 'Output' jack using standard 1/4" instrument cables. For modular integration, use appropriate patch cables for the CV In and Out ports.
Compatibility:
The Treminator is compatible with standard mono audio signals. Its CV I/O ports use typical Eurorack voltage standards, making it compatible with most modular synthesizers and CV-controlled devices.
Care:
- Keep the pedal away from moisture and extreme temperatures.
- Clean the exterior with a dry or slightly damp cloth. Avoid harsh chemicals.
- Ensure all connections are secure but do not overtighten jacks.
- If using with modular gear, be mindful of signal levels to avoid clipping or distortion.
