Product Information

Full details

The Gardner Covert Tungsten Link-Sinkers (High Bore) are essential tools for carp anglers looking to pin their hooklinks or leaders flush against the lake bed for improved presentation. Designed for those using skinned hooklinks, leadcore, or lead-free leaders, these high-density sinkers provide reliable weight to keep rigs discreet and stationary, though users should be mindful that they require careful installation to avoid damaging the line material.

FAQs

Can I use these on standard monofilament hooklinks?

These High Bore sinkers have a 0.50mm internal diameter. They are designed for thicker materials like leadcore or skinned hooklinks and may slide on thin monofilament.

How many sinkers come in a pack?

Each packet contains 12 sinkers mounted on convenient wire sprigs for easy application.

Will these sinkers fall off when fishing in heavy weed?

They are designed to remain fixed during normal usage, including casting and retrieves, making them much more secure than standard tungsten putty.

What are the physical dimensions of the sinker?

Each sinker measures 7.5mm in length and 2mm in diameter.

Are these environmentally safe?

Gardner uses a high-density tungsten polymer. Always ensure you are following local fishery rules regarding the use of weights and sinkers.

Can I mold putty over them?

Yes, they provide an excellent, stable base for molding additional tungsten putty if you need to fine-tune the weight of your rig.

Troubleshooting

Sinker slides down the leader during the cast

Ensure the line was properly wetted during installation; if it remains loose, check if the leader material is thin enough to require a small stop knot or a tiny piece of putty above the sinker to lock it in place.

Difficulty threading the sinker onto the leader

Verify that you are using the wire sprig provided in the packet to pull the line through the 0.50mm bore, as attempting to push stiff leaders through manually can be challenging.

Pros and Cons

Pros

Significantly heavier than standard putty for better anchoring
Internal bore size perfectly suited for bulky leader materials
Extremely durable and resistant to nuisance fish like crayfish
Supplied on wire sprigs for easy application

Cons

Requires wetting before installation to prevent friction damage
Not intended for thin mono hooklinks due to the 0.50mm bore
Fixed size limits micro-adjustments compared to moldable putty

Setup, Compatibility & Care

Preparation: Identify the correct section of your leader or skinned hooklink where you want the sinker positioned.
Lubrication: Always moisten the line or the internal bore of the sinker with water or saliva before attempting to slide it on. This reduces friction and prevents heat damage or abrasion to your leader.
Installation: Using the provided wire sprig, carefully thread the line through the 0.50mm bore and slide the sinker into place.
Compatibility: These are specifically engineered for high-diameter lines. Avoid using them on light-breaking-strain fluorocarbon or mono, as the bore may be too large to hold securely without a stop knot.
Care: After a session, inspect the sinker for debris. While the material is robust, ensure it is stored dry to maintain the integrity of the polymer bond over long periods.
