Battery life depends on the application and speed setting. The 4Ah battery will offer longer runtime than the 2Ah battery. For extended use, having both batteries charged is recommended.

You do not switch modes directly. The mode is determined by the accessory you attach. Use foam or wool pads for polishing, and sandpaper attached to a velcro pad for sanding.
