FAQs

What are the dimensions when folded?

The mat folds down to a compact 55 x 70 cm for transport.

Is the material waterproof?

Yes, the mat is constructed from durable, water-resistant nylon.

Does it come with pegs?

The mat includes pegging points, but standard bank pegs are typically sold separately.

Can this be used for other species?

While designed for catfish, it is excellent for any large specimen fish like carp or pike.

How do I ensure the best protection for the fish?

Always keep the mat damp before placing the fish on it to protect its protective slime layer.

Is the padding removable?

The padding is integrated into the design for structural integrity and should not be removed.

Troubleshooting

Mat shifting on the bank during use

Ensure all heavy-duty pegging points are securely staked into the ground using high-quality bank pegs.

Difficulty cleaning stubborn fish slime

Use a soft-bristled brush and lukewarm water to gently scrub the nylon surface, then rinse thoroughly.

Material holding water after packing up

Wipe the surface with a highly absorbent towel before folding to speed up the drying process once you arrive home.

Pros and Cons

Pros

Large surface area accommodates the biggest catfish safely
Thick padding offers excellent protection for the fish
Folds down significantly for easier transport
Pegging points prevent the mat from shifting on the bank

Cons

Larger footprint requires more bank space to set up
Material may take time to dry after a wet session
Heavier than standard carp mats due to its size

Setup, Compatibility & Care

To set up, unfold the mat on a level area of the bank, ensuring there are no sharp rocks or debris underneath that could compromise the padding. Use suitable pegs to secure the mat through the reinforced eyelets. For compatibility, this mat is sized specifically for large catfish, though it works equally well for very large carp. After use, rinse the mat with fresh water to remove grit and organic matter. Allow the mat to air dry completely in the shade before folding it back to its 55 x 70 cm travel size to prevent mold or mildew growth.
