Setup, Compatibility & Care
Compatibility: These leads are designed for use with 12-volt vehicle battery systems. They are suitable for all petrol engines and diesel engines up to 2.0 litres. Ensure the dead battery's voltage matches the voltage of the assisting vehicle's battery (typically 12V).
Setup (Jump Starting Procedure):
- Park Safely: Position the assisting vehicle close enough to the vehicle with the dead battery for the cables to reach, but ensure the vehicles are not touching.
- Turn Off Engines: Switch off both vehicles' ignitions and all electrical accessories.
- Connect Red Clamp: Attach one red clamp to the positive (+) terminal of the dead battery.
- Connect Other Red Clamp: Attach the other red clamp to the positive (+) terminal of the good battery.
- Connect Black Clamp: Attach one black clamp to the negative (-) terminal of the good battery.
- Connect Other Black Clamp: Attach the final black clamp to an unpainted metal surface on the engine block or chassis of the vehicle with the dead battery, away from the battery itself. This is a grounding point.
- Start Assisting Vehicle: Start the engine of the assisting vehicle and let it run for a few minutes.
- Start Vehicle with Dead Battery: Attempt to start the vehicle with the dead battery.
- Disconnect Cables: Once the engine is running, carefully remove the cables in the reverse order of connection: black from the chassis, black from the good battery, red from the good battery, and finally red from the previously dead battery.
Care: After use, clean the clamps of any dirt or corrosion. Store the cables neatly in the provided zipped wallet to prevent tangling and damage. Inspect the cables periodically for any signs of wear or damage. Keep the cables dry and away from excessive heat or chemicals.
