Setup, Compatibility & Care
Sowing Indoors:
- Sow seeds individually in clean pots or modules filled with compost, approximately 5cm deep.
- Water thoroughly.
- Maintain a minimum temperature of 12°C by keeping them on a warm windowsill or in a propagator.
Planting Out (Indoor Sown):
- Once the risk of frost has passed (typically May-June), slowly acclimatize seedlings to outdoor conditions.
- Plant out seedlings 15-20cm apart in full sun.
- Amend the soil with organic matter.
- Ensure plants have support, such as a double row of 1.8m canes placed 45cm apart.
Sowing Outdoors:
- Sow seeds directly into the final harvest location, 5cm deep and 15-20cm apart.
- Provide cane support as described for indoor-sown plants.
Container Growing:
- Use containers at least 75cm in diameter (e.g., a half-barrel).
- Follow outdoor sowing and support guidelines.
Care:
- Support: Install cane supports *before* planting or direct sowing.
- Watering: Keep soil consistently moist at all times.
- Harvesting: Pick regularly once pods reach about 10cm and snap easily.
Compatibility:
These seeds are compatible with typical garden soil conditions amended with organic matter and require full sun. They are suitable for both in-ground planting and large containers.
