Product Information

Full details

The CushCore Trail Tyre Insert is designed for aggressive mountain bikers looking to balance weight and performance, effectively serving as a secondary suspension system for your wheels. By stabilizing the tyre sidewalls and absorbing high-impact forces, it allows for lower tyre pressures and increased cornering control, though installation can be physically demanding for those unfamiliar with tight-fitting tubeless setups.

FAQs

Does this insert add much weight to the wheels?

The Trail model is designed as a middle-ground between weight and protection, adding minimal weight relative to the significant gains in handling and rim protection.

Can I use any valve with CushCore?

It is highly recommended to use the included CushCore 44mm valve, as its design ensures proper airflow through the insert.

Will this work with all tyre brands?

Yes, as long as the tyre width falls between 2.1 and 2.6 inches, it is compatible with most standard mountain bike tubeless tyres.

Do I need special tools for installation?

While not required, a sturdy set of tyre levers specifically designed for tight tubeless setups is highly recommended.

What should I do if I get a flat on the trail?

CushCore allows you to 'run-flat' at a reduced speed to reach the trailhead, though you should proceed with caution to avoid damaging the rim.

Troubleshooting

Tyre is extremely difficult to seat on the rim

Ensure the tyre bead is pushed deep into the central drop channel of the rim and use more bead lubricant.

Sealant appears to be drying out too quickly

Foam inserts may absorb some sealant; check and replenish levels every 3-6 months depending on local climate.

Valve is clogged or airflow is restricted

Remove the valve core and clear any dried sealant buildup using a thin wire or pick.

Pros and Cons

Pros

  • Significantly improved cornering stability and grip
  • Effective protection against rim dents and tyre flats
  • Allows for lower tyre pressures without sacrificing rim safety
  • Reduced trail chatter and vibration feedback
  • Optimized weight-to-performance ratio for trail riding

Cons

  • Installation can be difficult due to the tight fit
  • Adds rotational weight compared to a tubeless-only setup
  • Requires using the provided CushCore-specific valve stem
  • More complex to remove for field tyre changes

Setup, Compatibility & Care

To install, ensure your inner rim width is between 22mm and 35mm and your tyre width is between 2.1 and 2.6 inches.

  1. Remove the old valve and install the provided 44mm green CushCore Presta valve.
  2. Stretch the insert slightly to make seating easier, and begin by feeding the insert into the tyre before mounting the final bead.
  3. Use plenty of bead lubricant to ease the installation of the last section of the tyre bead onto the rim.
  4. Ensure you use a high-quality sealant that is compatible with foam inserts.

Regularly check your tyre sealant levels through the valve stem, as the foam insert can absorb a small amount of fluid over time.
