FAQs

Is the Nalgene Silo dishwasher safe?

Yes, the bottle is top-rack dishwasher safe.

Can I put boiling water in this bottle?

While the material is durable, it is not designed for boiling water. It is best suited for room temperature or cold liquids.

Does this bottle contain BPA?

No, all Nalgene bottles are BPA-free.

Will this fit in a standard cup holder?

Due to its 1.5-liter size and taller profile, it may not fit in most standard vehicle cup holders.

Is the lid replaceable?

Yes, Nalgene offers replacement loop-top caps if the original is lost or damaged.

Can I use this for carbonated beverages?

It is not recommended, as pressure buildup from carbonation can cause leaking or make the cap difficult to open.

Troubleshooting

Cap is difficult to unscrew

Check the threads for dried drink mix residue and clean the cap and bottle opening with warm, soapy water.

Leaking from the cap

Verify that the bottle is not overfilled and that the cap is screwed on straight; ensure no debris is stuck in the gasket area.

Stained or discolored plastic

Soak the bottle in a mixture of warm water and baking soda for several hours, then scrub with a bottle brush.

Pros and Cons

Pros

Large 1.5L capacity for long excursions
Leak-proof cap system prevents messy spills
Wide mouth allows for easy cleaning and adding ice
Extremely durable, BPA-free material
Fits standard backpack side pockets

Cons

Height can make it top-heavy in shallow pockets
Wide opening requires care to avoid spilling while drinking
Not insulated, so it does not keep liquids cold for extended periods

Setup, Compatibility & Care

To ensure your Nalgene Silo remains in peak condition, rinse it thoroughly with warm water and mild soap before the first use. The bottle is top-rack dishwasher safe, but hand washing with a bottle brush is recommended to extend the lifespan of the material. When sealing the bottle, ensure the threads are aligned correctly to guarantee the leak-proof seal. Avoid using the bottle in the microwave. If you are hiking in freezing conditions, ensure the lid is threaded tightly to prevent the cap from becoming difficult to open due to ice formation in the threads.
